Potomac House

Designed to fit into a planned community near the Potomac River with strict design guidelines, this house gives a nod toward tradition with simple vernacular severity toward the street. On the back, the house breaks out of an orthogonal geometry to orient to the topography of the site.

Pivoting around a drum above the entrance, radial structure and radiused forms encompass entry, great room, terraces and pools. The informal lifestyle of this young family is acknowledged in the open first floor plan and the orientation of the house to its wooded site and the river beyond.
