Thornapple Street House
Our clients came to us in need of a replacement for their much-loved traditional house, original to this site but destroyed when an enormous tree fell upon it.
The simple exterior of the new house belies its complex and rich interior. The great room along the back provides a large open space for entertaining. The south-facing interior expands horizontally to the garden, and is framed by two green-roofed outbuildings and a fountain. Vertically, a four-story stairwell rises from basement to attic, with multiple openings providing a changing vista along the way.
Throughout, every effort has been made to take advantage of this wooded in-town site, to fit into the existing streetscape, and to honor the site where the owners and their family had lived for many years.
